What is Indexed Universal Life?

IUL is a type of universal life policy that credits interest to cash value based on an index (e.g., S&P 500®) using a policy’s crediting method. It typically includes a floor (e.g., 0%) that limits downside to the credited interest, and may include caps and participation rates that limit upside. Policy charges and the cost of insurance apply.

Who is it for?
IUL can fit people who want permanent coverage and cash-value flexibility:
- Need lifetime death-benefit protection
- Want potential, tax-advantaged cash-value accumulation
- Prefer flexible premiums and adjustable benefits
- Are comfortable with index caps/participation limits and policy charges
Loans and withdrawals reduce cash value and death benefit and may cause a policy to lapse. Tax treatment can vary—consult a tax professional.
